Frequently Asked Questions

AIRLINE SERVICES AND TRANSPORTATION OF FIREARMS
There is an airport eight miles north of Jackson with several major airlines flying in and out of Jackson Hole daily. Please check with your airline concerning type of case needed to transport your firearm. Most airlines require hard gun cases.

GAME PROCESSING
Game is packed out shortly after it is killed, and delivered to Locker Plant. You can have it cut, wrapped and frozen to be transported if you wish. Dry ice and shipping cartons are available and extra.

PACKING GEAR
Your gear should fit into one or two duffle bags, with your bedroll rolled separate. . . It is better to use two or three shorter duffel bags than one big one. Please try to keep each bag less than 40 lbs.  We want you to take what you need, but please remember that all gear must be packed in 30 miles by mule.

RIFLES
We suggest that you bring a rifle that you are familiar with.  One that has a high velocity load with a flat trajectory... There are a number of good ones . . . Shots will vary from 25 to 400 yards, but most shots are about 200 to 300 yards. We recommend that you sight your rifle in at 200 to 250 yards.

INSURING GEAR
You may wish to insure your rifle and other valuable equipment against damage or loss during the hunt as we accept no responsibility for loss or damage of personal gear.

WEATHER
Weather will vary during the hunting season. . . It is possible to get snow at almost any time during the season. The later hunts will have a better chance of snow and much cooler. When packing your gear, expect temperatures to range from zero to 50 degrees above zero.

HUNT DEPARTURE TIME
On the pack-in day, if you need transportation from Jackson, we will pick you up at your Jackson Motel by van, at 6:30 a.m. to transport you to Base Camp. If you wish to drive your own automobile, you need to be at our Base Camp, ready to pack-in, by 7:30 a.m.

DON'T FORGET A CONSERVATION STAMP!

SUCCESS
The percent of kill and success ratio will vary year to year due to weather fluctuations, ability and skill of hunters' shooting and of course "Lady Luck." Hunter opportunity is 90% to 95% on all hunts. Our area, #60, is TROPHY COUNTRY AND WE HUNT AND DO ALL POSSIBLE TO TAKE TROPHY ANIMALS!

TRIP LENGTHS
Yellowstone Outfitters runs five rifle hunts during the course of a season. The first three hunts are ten day hunts and the last two hunts are seven day hunts. The camp is a 30-mile pack in from our Turpin Meadows Base camp. During your hunt is a day in and a day out of travel.
